Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy has many unique concentrations (orthopedic, pediatric, vestibular, etc.), but one less commonly known, yet very important specialization, is Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. At SportsCare Integrative Physical Therapy we use a holistic approach to treating uncomfortable pelvic symptoms including pain and loss of normal function. A person who might benefit from pelvic health physical therapy includes those experiencing (but is not limited to):

  • Overactive bowel/bladder
  • Painful bowel/bladder movements
  • Incontinence
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Hip pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Coccyx pain
  • Painful intercourse
  • Painful menses
  • Pregnancy pain
  • Post-partum care
  • Endometriosis
  • Digestive disturbance
  • Post-surgical pain/recovery
  • Pudendal nerve issues
  • Post-surgical complications – Vasectomy
  • Post-surgical complications – Erectile dysfunction
  • Cycling saddle adjustment

Pelvic health is a topic for women, men and children of all ages. This is a sensitive subject which needs to be approached with care and intentionality, due to the nature most people are embarrassed to talk about their private, sometimes intimate conditions. Through one-on-one therapy in a private setting, SportsCare Integrative Physical Therapy aims to put your concerns at ease while helping you resolve your past or current symptoms.

We begin by recording a detailed history of your current condition so we can fully understand the underlying stressors contributing to your symptoms. We then complete a physical assessment by measuring your movement, strength and functional abilities, giving us a baseline to progress from during future visits.

We tailor our treatments to fit your specific needs. Through a combination of manual therapy, movement therapy and therapeutic activities, we help reduce/eliminate pain and regain normal movement function. Specific skills such as myofascial release, joint mobilizations and muscle reeducation are examples of the hands-on work we apply.

Prevention begins with education. Throughout your physical therapy sessions, you will receive a wealth of knowledge pertaining to your individual diagnosis and plan of care. Integrating this new-found knowledge into your daily life and continuing self-treatments will help manage and/or eliminate the chance for recurrence of certain symptoms.

If you are suffering from any one of the above conditions and found this information helpful, please give our Gresham SportsCare office a call or schedule an appointment online here.
